I’d never say that I ‘always knew’ I was genderqueer, but…I kind of did always know. And there are these little hints
one of my favourite fairytales was about a princess whose kingdom went to shit, so she set out to Make Her Fortune, but eschewed the traditional Gross Coat of Some Kind for dressing up as a prince. And then she gets to this other kingdom, and there’s this hot princess to be married off, and a big competition for her, and of course our heroine kicks ass and takes names and marries that princess SO HARD. And then they are married for a while, and then she suddenly turns into a boy?
Which I think I felt simultaneously annoyed and intrigued by (it’s like a giant NO HOMO stuck to the bottom), while ALSO failing to register that maybe it wasn’t very straight of me to be so excited about married princesses.
also oh shit that’s just Utena
y’all were reading the colour fairy books, huh?
