I don't have a good camera. I do have shakey hands. I'm fond of flowers, manga, Ashe, queerness, strong flavours, fashion, curvy ladies, scrawny boys, seriously cute things like sloths, and pretty colours. I live on the west coast of Canadia, and study psychology. I have ADD, but mostly you won't notice on here, which is sort of sad because it occasionally leads to hilarious hijinks. Or at least I think so. Also, I talk in my sleep. About lemurs. I not very secretly want to be Rufus Wainwright or maybe Miyavi when I grow up, but I'll settle for being an awesome, LGBT-and-everything-else-positive sex educator and researcher, because the world needs more of that sweet action. All those times you sat in class, or read something, and thought, "Yeah, but what about me?" I'm going to fix that.

I have also recently realised my deep and unending love for cookies and cream stuff. It's like crack. With delicious cookie chunks.

Chicago Students Protest in Support of Persepolis
There’s a reason behind the banning. American chauvinists do not want the working class and the people to know the reality behind the revolutionary movement in Iran. The book does a great job in visualizing the Iranian left during the 1979 revolution. The banning of the book dehumanizes the essential meaning of education and wants to advocate a Orientalist perspective of the state post-revolution. Banning this book can make it easier for the imperialists to invade the country for ‘humanitarian reasons’. The book does a great job in depicting the brutality behind the Shah regime and the ban just simply neglects the prospects behind the revolution.

FUCK ORIENTALISM
what the fuck is wrong with Persepolis?!
Oh yeah, it shows Iran and Iranians in a human light instead of evil big baddie foreigners who want to destroy us all
bye

Persepolis is one of my favorite graphic novels and it bothers me that people are trying to ban something like that when it was so good and depicted Middle Easterns so well, including Marjane’s identity crisis brought on by racism against her country.
Ugh.

Wow.
I like that part of their argument (for removing it from the grade seven curriculum) is that it depicts scenes of torture. According to Satrapi, there is only one page that actually depicts torture, and my recollection is that the majority of the story is focused on other things (there’s a lot more of people ‘just disappearing’). This is complete bullshit. Kids have to read all sorts of potentially disturbing and violent material in school, such as first-hand accounts of the Holocaust. Hell, a lot of Shakespeare is pretty violent. Should schools ban that too?
Absolutely, teachers should be ready and able to help students process distressing content. I’ve taken several classes recently that have dealt with horror films, and my profs have warned students both on the first day and before playing films that there is potentially disturbing material in them. It’s not that hard. And it’s worth it: as much as I like to focus on how good people can be, I think there’s a lot of value in considering how awful we can be as well, partly so we can learn how to process this stuff in a safe environment.
I really hope these guys smarten up. This is ridiculous Orientalist bullshit.

why do teachers have such an intense hatred for wikipedia

because it does their job better than them

my history teacher used to mess with wikipedia when he gave us assignments

half my class had essays about how hitler was secretly in a relationship with stalin

IM LAUGHING REALLY HARD RIGHT NOW

Wikipedia is not a good place to do all your research, but it is an excellent place to start. Searching big databases like JSTOR can be a little overwhelming when you haven’t focused your topic yet. Wikipedia can direct you to sub-fields or related topics that might help you round out your understanding, as well as helping you find some more respectable resources.

Additionally, if you’re, say, writing a paper on something pop culture related such as a game or anime, those big databases are almost useless. Fan created wikis may be your best bet to find interviews or official information and whatnot.

My main point is, I wish teachers would focus more on teaching students how to use critical thinking and check sources. Even a fancy peer-reviewed journal article can be full of shit.

Bra set number 1! Purchased from brastop.com.

  1. Freya Deco Honey 34GG: The Deco has become my go-to bra-fits well, comfy, cute, lasts, gives a nice round shape, and is versatile. It runs big in the band size, but fits true in the cups. Only problem is it has a two-hook closure-I’d prefer three. Bounce control is pretty low. Since I’m sort of between band size with this one (gonna grab a spacer), I’ve secured it with some safety pins and a sock in these pictures. It looks pretty damn good anyhow, so that sure says something.
  2. Curvy Kate Gia balconette 36GG: Definite favourite out of the new bras. All the Curvy Kate bras I got have the three-hook closure I want. It’s very comfortable, and true to size, though the top of the cups does dig in a little. The shape is good-non-moulded bras are always a bit pointy, but I don’t feel like I have torpedoes on my front. I like the detailing-the ridiculous little jewel at the gore is humourous. It gives fairly average lift-nothing special. The seam between the satin material and the sheer top is a little aggressive, forming a bit of a ridge, but it doesn’t seem to show up too much under clothing.
  3. Curvy Kate Tempt Me 36GG: This bra is absolutely beautiful. That said, it is not for me. It fits true to size, has nice shape and good lift. The front was just too unsupported for me-I feel like after a few minutes of wear, my boobs would be escaping and having a cleavage party. If I were more in femme mode, and interested in being all “HEY I HAVE BOOBS!” i might keep it despite its problems, but I’ll be sending it back.
  4. Curvy Kate Entice 36GG: I was already disappointed when I first saw this bra-the colour was a lot more hideous beige than the gold I was expecting. The band fit well, but the cups are too small, and seem oddly shaped. The detailing is otherwise really cute, so I’m kind of sad it fell down in other areas. Sending this one back.
  5. Curvy Kate Princess 36GG: This bra is SUPER CUTE! However, fit wasn’t good-band size was true, but cups were too small. The shape and lift are pretty good-it’s a bit hard to tell when the fit is off. I might see if I can exchange this one for the next cup size up.

I’ve never tried Curvy Kate bras before. Even though most of these bras didn’t work out, my overall impression of them is good: mostly true to size, pretty designs, and good support. I’ll have to wait and see how the durability  is, though. I would definitely try more of their bras.
